Pepperweed Consulting, LLC is one of the leading players in the IT service management and strategic consulting services in US. Recently named to the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing privately held companies in America, Pepperweed has the industry's strongest track record of successful enterprise IT management implementations.
The Situation
Through its extensive exposure and unsurpassed expertise in deploying and optimizing large scale hp OpenView environments, Pepperweed discovered the need for a simplified web-based portal to manage specific functions of an hp OpenView managed environment. With more than seven years of field experience, Pepperweed found a common requirement across its customer base for a tool, which would enable IT management to delegate routine provisioning and configuration tasks to remote, departmental, and line-of-business IT administrators.
The Challenge
To meet the growing requirements of its customers, Pepperweed decided to develop a java based application, which would work as an administrative web front-end to a product called hp OpenView operations for Unix. To accomplish this task, Pepperweed needs a relational database, which would be bundled with the application written in java using a Struts framework.
The database needs to fulfill the following requirements:
- The RDBMS should be compatible with a Struts framework and HP OpenView operations for Unix.
-
- The RDBMS should be able to store authentication data (users and roles) as well as persistent data objects and their relationship to various user roles.
-
- The database should enable the user to specify the domain range for a particular data type.
| Daffodil DB at the rescue |
Compatibility
Being SQL99 and JDBC 3.0 standards compliant, Daffodil DB turned out to be the first choice of Pepperweeds. The java based feature rich relational database met the Struts framework compatibility requirements successfully and was effortlessly integrated with hp Open View operations for Unix. The support team at Daffodil Software Limited handled all the technical support queries up to the satisfaction mark.
Data Storage Security
To ensure tight leashed security, Daffodil DB supports various encryption algorithms. The users can encrypt the data before storing them in a table with the help of a particular algorithm. Daffodil DB permits users and roles to allow specific privileges to different users for restricting or providing access to different database tables or objects. A user or role may access an object once it has been granted the necessary privileges.
Domain Range
Daffodil DB has built-in support for domain and CLOB data types. These two features enable the users to specify the domain range for a defined data type and police the data storage accordingly. This further ensures limited and secure access to specific infrastructure resources and reporting information and provides centralized utilities for facilitation, coordination, and management of overall OpenView managed environment.
